BACKGROUND
Since 1992 SERC-NAHRO has had the privilege of being associated with an effort to create opportunities for leadership development for youth in the SERC Region. It began with the efforts of a few strong-willed individuals who were devoted to the belief that providing youth from low-income families with experiences they might not otherwise have access to, could have a direct, positive impact on their futures.
They started a “Sports Festival” in the State of Alabama. And over these past 30 years, it has grown into the annual “SERC MLK Basketball Tournament and Cheer Competition.”

As a true leader in the housing industry, our agency has the distinct pleasure of hosting the SERC MLK Basketball Tournament & Cheer Competition in our great state next year. Housing Authorities throughout the Southeastern Region of the United States will travel during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday with their youth, families, coaches, and staff to this highly anticipated weekend of competitive sports, educational opportunities, and cultural experiences.
